Richard A. Pack is an active and valued member of the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter (FGCC) of the 101st Airborne Division Association. He is currently the Treasurer of the FGCC and has been Governor and President of the same. Previous positions include President of the National 101st Airborne Division, and 1st Year Primary Governor for both 159th and 101st Aviation.
Dick's 2nd tour in the Republic of Vietnam was with the 101st Airborne Division from February 1971 to February 1972. His first 26 days was with C Company, 158th Aviation, where he flew 165 hours. After a good Vietnam familiarization, he was transferred to the 101st Aviation Battalion as the Operations Officer (S-3) where he was the Air Mission Commander for all Battalion operations larger than 15 aircraft. He spent his last six months of his tour as the Commander of C Company 101st Aviation Battalion.
During his 26 years of active duty with the United States Army, he served as a commander or operations officer in assignments in the U.S. and abroad. His last 7 years of active service included high-level special operations projects: the Iranian rescue mission (Eagle Claw), Mission Planner for a rescue of American camp, planned and coordinated the POWs in a Laotian camp, planned and coordinated the Grenada rescue mission, Operations Officer during the TWA hijacking incident, and in Los Angeles, CA, Mr. Pack was the Project Officer with the Defense Olympic Support Team, which coordinated security and counter-terrorist efforts with the Los Angeles Police Department and FBI.
In Recognition of his illustrious service in the United States Army, Mr. Pack was awarded the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Soldiers Medal, 3 Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, 2 Defense Meritorious Medals, 3 Meritorious Service Medals, 19 Air Medals, A Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (5 Stars) Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab, and Jungle Expert Badge. In May 2023 He was inducted to the United States Army OCS Hall of Fame.
After Retirement from the United States Army Dick has spent 26 years in the Defense Contracting world, where he continued to support our nation's military efforts. Mr. Pack was also President and Chairman of StratCorp, Inc.
He is married to his college sweetheart Carol for 53 years and has three children and seven grandchildren.
